Online dating industry keeps growing

Posted by John on August 21, 2015

Nearly a third of Americans have met their partner online. Of the 35 percent who met their partner online since 2005, nearly half met through online dating sites.

Recent numbers show that online dating revenues are growing 10-15 percent per year.

So the question is why the dating industry has become so popular? Experts are claiming that the online dating has become more socially accepted and due to career and time pressure people are looking for more efficient ways to meet others for intimate relationships.

While online dating numbers are rising steadily over the last half-decade, niche dating sites have become more popular than ever. Even though mainstream sites have a lot more members to choose from, a growing proportion of users are looking for more focused services with those who share particular interests and desires.

People more open to online dating tend to be in their mid-30s and older. Many people would think online dating is only for the young but surprisingly, people over 60 are the fastest growing demographic in the online dating industry. Experts say that a lot more seniors recently have taken advantage of the new opportunities the technology gives them and the reason more seniors have taken an interest in online dating is because of avoidance of loneliness, and simply to meet new people to spend time with.
